STEM vs. STEAM – what is the difference?
What is STEAM?
STEM + art = STEAM
This week we are running our online Arts & Creative Summer Camp, where students are exploring the STEAM that surrounds them, as well as STEAM careers. So what is STEAM exactly?
STEAM is the combination of science, technology, engineering, arts, and math.
Through the arts, complex STEM information is made relevant and understandable to everyday people.
STEM and the Arts: How they are connected
- Innovation and creativity are required components of STEM, both of which are deeply rooted in the arts.
- Art and design offer new ways to innovate and create within the STEM disciplines.
- Artists and scientists both ask big questions, and innovate along their path to finding solutions.
Artists and designers can effectively and holistically communicate complex data and scientific information in culturally relevant ways. Thus everyone, from children to professionals, can access and interpret the latest STEM breakthroughs in a way that makes sense to their own lives. Working together, STEAM can accomplish more than STEM alone!

Each day campers are learning about a different STEAM career through an online learning platform featuring hands-on (and resume-boosting!) activities. Here are some of the STEAM careers we are learning about this week. Click the links below for FREE resources to learn more, right alongside our summer campers!
The 6-day online STEAM Camp will also be featured as one of ten after school programs offered this coming school year. Fall schedule will be posted soon, stay tuned 🙂
